Declan Rice sends loan message to Blues star amid Chelsea and Man United transfer links

Declan Rice has been getting involved in Chelsea social media again this summer.

The former Blues academy star remains close friends with a few of the players who were at the club in his time, most notably Mason Mount.

Rice is understood to be amongst Thomas Tuchel's top targets this summer, but it remains to be seen if the Blues could afford a big-money deal for him alongside their wish to sign Borussia Dortmund starlet Erling Haaland.

And Rice has regularly been seen interacting with Mount on social media in the past, which has led to some fans hoping that their friendship could spark a return to Stamford Bridge.

The West Ham man has now spread his interactions among more of the Chelsea squad with a message to a fellow midfielder who joined the academy long after Rice departed.

Scotland international Billy Gilmour confirmed his departure on a loan move to Norwich City on Instagram earlier today and amongst a flock of Chelsea players wishing him well, including Calum Hudson-Odoi and Conor Gallagher, was former academy midfielder Rice.

Gilmour's post read: "I’m absolutely delighted to join Norwich City on a season long loan!

"Really excited to get to work!"

And despite never having played at the same club at the same time Rice posted in the comments: "Smash it up mate."

Underneath the same post John Terry and current Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham wished Gilmour luck.

Rice, despite being Tuchel's top target to strengthen his midfield options, is not the only midfielder to have been linked with a move to west London, as Julian Weigl of Benfica and even Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos, who can play in midfield, have been targeted by Tuchel as possible options.

Gilmour joined Norwich City on a season-long loan deal after making 11 senior appearances for Chelsea since making his debut last season.

He told the Canaries' club website: "I’m very excited to be here. I can’t wait for the season ahead.

"I’ve been looking forward to coming here, playing as much as possible and helping Norwich City compete in the Premier League."
