Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Saturday, August 15.
Declan Rice's potential role
Chelsea are expected to switch their attention towards improving their defensive options at the club and one man heavily linked for a move is Declan Rice.
The West Ham man is a former academy player of the Blues and is said to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, where he would line-up with close friend Mason Mount.
Frank Lampard is keen on the England international and he could potentially been used as a central defender, with his versatility being a huge asset.
But how exactly would he fit in at Stamford Bridge if he were to move across the capital? We've taken a look.
Kai Havertz boost
Chelsea have been handed a significant boost in the hunt to land Kai Havertz as Bayer Leverkusen have opened the door to the player's departure.
Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has openly admitted that Havertz has expressed a desire to complete a move away from the club in the summer transfer window.
While he did not directly mention Chelsea, and stated that there are 'several clubs' who wish to include Havertz in their future plans, the Blues are the leading candidates for his services.
“It was always clear that there would be talks as soon as the Europa League ended for us. Kai has expressed a wish to take the next step. Whether this will work in the near future or not, I can’t say at the moment," he told Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger.
Leeds' Batshuayi interest
Leeds United are interested in signing Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi this summer, according to the Athletic's Phil Hay.
“One who’s been mentioned and is definitely of interest is Mitchy Batshuayi down at Chelsea. Bielsa knows him from Marseille and knows a lot about his game,” he said on The Phil Hay Show.
“He wouldn’t be somebody who would have to adapt massively to what Bielsa does. Despite the fact that he has never really happened for him at Chelsea, he is only 26.”
