Declan Rice reveals prediction made by Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips

Declan Rice rounded off a dominant England performance with a goal against Hungary last night, one that was predicted by his team-mate Kalvin Phillips.

The pair have built an impressive partnership at the heart of England's midfield and started together in last night's World Cup qualifier having both shone at Euro 2020.

Neither Rice or Phillips are prolific at club level or on the international stage but Rice found the net with a low drive in Budapest and has revealed his goal was predicted by his midfield partner.

In an Instagram story, Rice wrote: "@KalvinPhillips, you did say I'd score before the game."

Away from the pitch, the duo appear to have developed a strong friendship and have become crucial to an England team seemingly more united than sides of years gone by.

Phillips operates in a different system with the Three Lions than he does at Leeds United but has thrived, providing a defensive screen alongside Rice whilst also trying to put England on the front foot at every opportunity.

The tenacity and defensive solidity of the pair gave the attacking three in behind Harry Kane a licence to express themselves in last night's 4-0 win.

Phillips has recently been joined in the England squad by Leeds United teammate Patrick Bamford, who has been handed his first ever call-up to the senior side.

He had previously represented the Three Lions at youth level but had to wait for his opportunity in the senior team, eventually earning it with scintillating form in the Premier League.

Like Rice, he was also eligible for the Republic of Ireland and has represented them in the past, but has pledged his international allegiance to the country of his birth.

England return to action on Sunday against Andorra, before rounding off the international break with a trip to Poland next Wednesday.
