Declan Rice responds to Man Utd and Man City transfer rumours

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has played down rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United or Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

The talented 20-year-old has enjoyed a sensational season for the Hammers and recently made his England debut after switching allegiances from the Republic of Ireland.

Rice has been touted as a potential replacement for ageing City midfielder Fernandinho but is also being targeted by new United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Ander Herrera looking like he may depart in the summer.

West Ham academy graduate Rice insists he is happy at the London Stadium, however, and has hailed his "special connection" with the Hammers as the reason he is fully focused on his current club.

"I’m happy," Rice told BT Sport .

"I’m playing week in, week out. I have a special connection with the fans. It’s unbelievable [the London Stadium].

"I love every minute of being at West Ham.

"Being compared to players, being linked to other teams, I don’t really take any of it in, to be honest.

Manuel Pellegrini accuses West Ham players of lacking fight after dismal Everton defeat

"If you think about it too much you get caught up in it. I’m only 20, you’ve got your whole career ahead of you.

"I’m just focused on playing for West Ham and playing with a smile on my face and enjoying it."

Rice's move from defence into a holding midfield role has spark a dramatic rise for Rice this season leading to him being linked with top Premier League clubs.

But Hammers fans will be relieved to hear him play down the rumours and insist he is focused on the remainder of the season as the club look to recover from a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Everton on Saturday.
