Declan Rice explains how Manchester United great Gary Neville inspired England vs Germany

England midfielder Declan Rice has shared how words from Manchester United legend Gary Neville inspired Gareth Southgate's side to victory over Germany at Euro 2020.

The Three Lions made history with a 2-0 triumph against their historic rivals, in a win that represents England's first against Germany in a knockout fixture since the 1966 World Cup final.

Second half goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane, provided the win for England, which increases optimism around the nation's chances of going all the way in the Euros.

England's next game against Ukraine is now set for Saturday night, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

And West Ham star Rice has revealed how ex United man Neville provided some encouragement to the squad.

How far will England go at Euro 2020? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

"It’s history, all the players have been asked about the previous games with Germany but today we created our own bit of history," he said after the match.

"Gary Neville was saying these things don’t come round often and we took the most of that opportunity and it was a pleasure to be out there."

England's victory came in front of a packed Wembley, with an atmosphere that hasn't been witnessed inside a football stadium in the UK since before the pandemic, and Rice hailed the supporters.

" It’s incredible," he added. "A lot of people, if you look at the group stage, have written us off not scoring enough goals, you read a lot of it then put it to the back of your mind and want to prove people wrong.

"Tonight in front of a full house, everyone had that fire in their belly. For one, knock Germany out and two get us through to the next round."
