Declan Rice claims social media trolls threatened to come to his house after England switch

Declan Rice has revealed that abusive social media trolls threatened to come to his house after his decision to swap the Republic of Ireland for England earlier this year.

The West Ham midfielder earned three caps in friendly matches for then-manager Martin O'Neill before deciding this year to change allegiances to the Three Lions.

And he has admitted that he has received vile threats online, telling ITV: “I’ve had a few bad bits [of social media abuse], I’ve had people saying they’re going to come to my house online,”

“There’s a few bits I could go into but I don’t need to go into it, threats to my family, threats to me.

“They’re just like, you click on their profile and they’d just be like a fake profile so you don’t know whether it’s true or not."

However, Rice has admitted that the attacks on the internet never got him too down, saying that supporters will always be giving abuse to footballers.

“Thinking about it now," Rice continuted. "I was never actually scared about it because all these fans are going to be giving you abuse and what not over it.

“You just, kind of, look at it and laugh. Yeah alright as if you’re going to come and do that kind of thing.

“So yeah, it was tough. There has been some abuse. It was more for my mum and dad really – they were more worried about me than anyone else.

“I was always quite strong minded but my mum, with me being the youngest, she was always a bit worried."
