Declan Rice breezed past half the Arsenal team in an attempt to seal a West Ham win

In the stadium that saw Mo Farah become a national treasure and earn him a knighthood, Declan Rice has been compared to Sir Mo for his late full pitch galloping run.

With the scores level at 3-3 following a thrilling Premier League encounter Rice almost singlehandedly won the game for West Ham.

The Hammers had been 3-0 up only to see Arsenal draw level thanks to two West Ham own goals and a late Alexandre Lacazette equaliser. At 3-2 Rice could be clearly heard telling his team to "Oi!!! Just relax," and for a short spell, that is exactly what they did.

Following Craig Dawson's unfortunate 61st-minute own goal West Ham started to get themselves back into the game and create some chances of their own.

First Jarrod Bowen saw his shot expertly blocked by Kieran Tierney, with the Scottish defender fortunate that Michail Antonio's follow-up effort hitting his leg and diverting it out for a corner. And then West ham's golden opportunity to go 4-2 up and kill the game off arrived.

Said Benrahma broke into the box, looked up, and flashed a perfect ball across the six-yard box only for Antonio to see his touch rebound off the post.

Not long after the Gunners were level and looking to complete a remarkable comeback with a fourth goal of their own.

However, it was Rice who came closest to providing a winner. The defensive midfielder received the ball from Tomas Soucek inside the D of his own box.

Four touches later and Rice was past Nicolas Pepe, the Arsenal man tried to keep up with the England international but gave up once Rice reached the Gunners half.

By the time Rice was in the opposition half he had sprinted away from Martin Odegaard and Thoams Partey as if they weren't even there.

Pablo Mari was next and he too was left in Rice's wake. Emile Smith-Rowe had a ten-yard headstart on the Hammers vice-captain and was still unable to get close to the Sir Mo impersonator.

After breezing past half of the Arsenal outfield players Rice even had the presence of mind to look up and see if a pass to Antonio was on, with David Luiz covering the striker there was only one option for him.

By now Rice was inside the Arsenal penalty area and at a tight angle but that did not stop the 22-year-old from smashing his shot on target. Unfortunately for him, Bernd Leno was up to the task and parried the ball away to safety.

There have been some incredible goals already this season, none more so than Manuel Lanzini's late strike to grab a point against Tottenham in October but had rice buried his effort this would have been right up there and Jamie Carragher was impressed with what he saw from the England international.

"He was like Mo Farah. Look at him bursting through, knocking people out the way and then it’s can he get a pass off? He can’t, so thinks might as well shoot I’ve gone this far. But massive credit to both sets of players,” Carragher said on Sky Sports commentary.

It might not have ended in a goal but for Rice to still have the energy to breeze past players, two of whom were fresh from the Arsenal substitutes bench showed not only his fitness and desire but also his incredible work-rate.

The midfielder is now away on international duty with England where he has become a vital cog in Gareth Southgate's team.

Hammers fans will be praying he returns fit and raring to go for the final nine games of the season with West Ham pushing for European football, a stage that Rice belongs on.
