Declan Gallagher set for Aberdeen switch as Stephen Glass battles Cardiff City interest to land Scotland defender

Aberdeen are set to sign Scotland defender Declan Gallagher.

The Dons are on the verge of sealing a deal that will see the Motherwell captain move to Pittodrie on freedom of contract in the summer.

Gallagher is set to become Stephen Glass' second capture, after he sealed an ambitious move to bring Celtic captain Scott Brown north.

Aberdeen had been concerned that they were going to lose out to English interest but he is set for Pittodrie after a positive push this week.

Cardiff City were amongst the other sides who were interested in the 30-year-old but he looks set to remain in the Scottish Premiership.

Gallagher’s future has been up in the air for several months but his move to Fir Park from Livingston in 2019 has helped him break into the Scotland squad.

He hopes his good end to the season with the Steelmen will see him maintain his place in Steve Clarke’s squad for Euro 2020.

He has helped Motherwell secure their top-flight status and will look to bow out on a high against Dundee United and Ross County.
