Declan Donnelly: Being a parent is the hardest thing I've done

Declan Donnelly says parenthood is the hardest challenge he has ever faced.

The TV presenter, 43, became a father five months ago when his wife Ali Astall gave birth to their daughter, Isla.

The couple left the launch of Mollie’s Motel and Diner in Oxfordshire early last night to get back to Isla in London.

Donnelly said: “No one tells you how hard being a parent is! We could have had a warning! It is literally the hardest thing I’ve ever done but I’m loving it.”

He also said he was “gutted” to have missed last week’s National Television Awards ceremony, where he and Ant McPartlin won the TV entertainment presenter award.

The pair received the prize for the 18th year running, despite McPartlin taking most of 2018 off to go into rehab following a drink-driving conviction. It meant Holly Willoughby joined Donnelly to present I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!

He said: “It was very emotional missing the ceremony as we are there every year. We’ll be back next year though, that’s for certain.”

McPartlin, also 43, is now back at work filming the latest series of Britain’s Got Talent alongside Donnelly.
