Declan Devine heaps praise on Conor Clifford as midfielder signs for Derry City

Derry City boss Declan Devine has hailed the arrival of Conor Clifford from St Patrick's Athletic.

Midfielder Clifford, 28, was a Chelsea starlet and played for Ireland at under-21 level before eventually returning home to join Dundalk at the start of 2017.

In October of that year he began to serve a six-month worldwide ban from football for betting during his time in England.

Clifford had a short spell with Limerick before playing for the Saints last season.

"He's a brilliant player, a very good footballer, technically a player who will suit playing on our pitch and suit the way we play," said Devine.

"He's a player who gives us strength in depth and who has a wealth of experience, he has experienced the highs and lows, but more importantly he's really, really interested in playing for Derry City, and knows the attributes required.

"He's a player who is determined to do well this year".
