
Fewer customers than usual are seen dining on terraces set up by restaurants along the Kamo River in Kyoto on Saturday evening, the first day of the season for the decks. Many restaurants did not open because a state of emergency is in place for Kyoto and three other prefectures. A total of 83 restaurants plan to serve customers on the stretch of terraces through the end of October, which is one month longer than usual, according to a local cooperative for the riverside establishments.
