Decision to be made on plans for new 150-bed Glasgow hotel with rooftop bar next to the River Clyde

Councillors will make a decision next week on whether to give the green light to a new 150-bedroom hotel development overlooking the River Clyde.

A planning application for the £18m Holiday Inn development, which would be located adjacent to STV's HQ in Pacific Quay, was submitted to Glasgow City Council back in November of last year.

The seven-storey structure would include a rooftop Skybar and terrace allowing panoramic views across the Clyde and the city, as well as a cafe and restaurant open to the general public.

Malcolm Pearson, Director of Pacific Quay Developments, said of the hotel plans: “Although situated on one of the prime remaining waterfront sites to be developed in Glasgow, this site has lain derelict for over 15 years.

“With Scottish Events Campus aiming to enhance its conference and exhibition offer by extending circa 200,000sq ft, adding further pressure on accommodation provision, Holiday Inn Pacific Quay will constitute an outstanding addition to Glasgow’s hospitality offering to a key strategic site for Glasgow, bringing new opportunities for economic growth to the city.”

The decision on the hotel is set to be made at the Council's Planning Applications Committee meeting on Tuesday (August 18).
