Decision on this season's Junior Shield competition delayed until end of June

A decision on this season's Toals Junior Shield won't be made until the end of June.

The Co Antrim FA Junior Shield Committee met on Thursday night to discuss the 2019/20 competition.

All football in Northern Ireland is currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Junior Shield is at the semi-final stage, with Harryville Homers due to meet East Belfast II's and Ahoghill Thistle taking on Shamrock FC.

"The Committee have agreed that a formal decision on the competition will be made in the week commencing Monday 29th June," said a statement.

"The Irish FA have set a deadline of 31 July for the competition to be concluded. This is also the cut off date for amateur registrations for the clubs who are competing in the competition.

"The final decision on the competition will be led by Government guidance noting that current restrictions mean that it is currently impossible for the competition to be concluded by the deadline set by the IFA.

"As such the Committee will be paying close attention to updated Government guidance over the next number of weeks."
