Decision on lower league season restart for Dumbarton expected this week

Dumbarton FC are expecting March restart plans to receive the green light from SFA chiefs at a meeting tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Sons, along with every other club outside of the top two divisions, have been barred from training or playing since early January - in response to a post-Christmas surge in Covid-19 figures.

However with the prevalence of the virus dropping across the country, lower league sides now expect to be given the go-ahead to return to action in March.

This comes after clubs released a roadmap to return to action based on introducing weekly testing , with sides keen to complete the campaign.

It is not yet confirmed if all 27 games will be completed, with the Lennox understanding that a shortened 18 game season is under consideration.

The future of the Scottish Cup also remains unclear, with Dumbarton still due to play Highland League side Huntly in the competition - who have yet to receive any information about when, or if, they will return to action.

Chiefs are set to meet tomorrow (Wednesday) for crunch talks on the future of the season, with the current suspension of football set to end on Sunday.

Assuming that plans are approved Dumbarton could then be in action on either Tuesday March 2 or Saturday March 9, with players returning to training next week.

Sons’ last game was a defeat to Montrose on December 19.
