Decision on housing plans near Dowlais cancer centre now rests with Merthyr Tydfil councillors

Plans for housing near a cancer unit in Merthyr Tydfil will have to go before full council because the borough’s planning committee could not make their minds up.

Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association wants to build 10 homes on land near the Cancer Aid Centre in Dowlais .

However, residents and local councillors are worried that the development could cause to patients using the nearby cancer centre.

The plans first went before the council's planning committee in February and were initially recommended for approval.

It decided to postpone making a decision until the following month.

However, after hearing fresh concerns about the impact on the cancer centre as well on traffic councillors said the application should be discussed by the full council because of it's "complex and difficult nature".

People are worried about the effect of a Merthyr housing development on cancer patients

The matter will be discussed at a meeting on Wednesday, April 17.
