Decision on controversial Dumfries and Galloway pylon plan expected in early 2023

A decision on plans for a huge overhead power line through the Stewartry could be made early next year.

Scottish Power Energy Networks’ Kendoon to Tongland Reinforcement Project would see more than 100 pylons built with some of the existing infrastructure removed.

It will be the subject of Scottish Government public inquiry after planning councillors unanimously objected to the proposal last year.

And the government’s planning and environmental appeals decision has now set a target date of January 17, 2023, for an announcement to be made.

The Galloway Without Pylons group accept that a new line is needed but believe it should be laid underground to protect the environment and the countryside.

SPEN have claimed undergrounding will also have a greater environmental impact and would “come at a significantly higher cost”.
