Decision made over FA WSL clash between Bristol City and Aston Villa ahead of weekend

Bristol City Women's FAWSL fixture against Aston Villa will no longer take place this weekend, the club have announced.

The fixture was due to take place on Sunday, but due to a positive COVID-19 test in the Aston Villa camp, the match has been postponed, following discussion and agreement with the FA.

As a result of the positive test, Aston Villa are now following government protocols and players are self-isolating to prevent the further spread of the virus.

In a statement, the FA said: "We wish to confirm that Aston Villa Women’s next two Barclays FA WSL fixtures against Bristol City and Chelsea have been postponed following a member of Villa’s first-team squad testing positive for COVID-19.

"Several other members of the squad will also enter a period of self-isolation and due to these developments, the FA has agreed to postpone Villa’s next two fixtures, against Bristol City (11 October) and Chelsea (17 October).

"Aston Villa’s main priority now is the health and safety of their players, staff, and opponents."

No new date has yet been set for the rearranged fixture, but Bristol City have said that they are working with the FA and Aston Villa on a rescheduled date.
