Decision due on 12-storey apartment block near Nottingham Railway Station

The proposed transformation of a 'long-term derelict site' near Nottingham Railway Station into a 12-storey apartment block has been tipped for approval.

Plans for the development, earmarked for a vacant spot off Arkwright Street, are due to be discussed by Nottingham City Council's planning committee on Wednesday, June 17.

Planning officers have recommended approval, subject to councillors making a final decision on the day.

A range of studio, one and two-bed apartments are in the pipeline split between what planning documents describe as a "a 12-storey landmark tower and three to five-storey building".

More than 300 apartments are planned for the site in total.

A proposal for a 420-student bed scheme was previously approved for the site but the developer, Cassidy Group, submitted an application for a revised scheme.

Cassidy Group confirmed last year the revised project was intended for working professionals and designed to coincide with the opening of the huge Unity Square building, where HM Revenue and Customs staff will moved into.

Planning documents, submitted as part of the latest application, read: "These proposals will provide the regeneration of a long-term derelict site within the important Meadows Gateway area."

The documents clarified the plans was to build "managed apartments for the private rental sector".
