December: Little Black Book Of Health, Beauty And Wellness Practitioners

Looking ahead to the next decade, health and wellness is set to become an even bigger slice of our daily conversations in the years ahead. But perhaps what we should expect to see most of is less of everything. By that I mean, people pledging to take on less, using their phones less, relying on social media less. We are going to see a rise of people focusing on being present and committed, or at least let’s hope so. For a richer life and fuller experiences, here are some of our favourite products, places and people in the beauty and wellness space.

Psycle Westbourne Grove

The fourth in Psycle London’s collection of studios, their new Westbourne location is just a few minutes from Bayswater and Queensway stations. Join in for one of their 45-minute hero spin classes, the brand’s signature full-body bike workouts. The super slick new West London premises offer some of the most-rewarding fitness classes around, and you won’t have to wait after class as there’s an abundance of GHD straighteners and hairdryers on site. “People have been asking us when we’re going to open in West London pretty much since we launched our first studio,” Psycle CEO Rhian Stephenson explained at the launch. “So we’re thrilled to finally have a home in this vibrant, iconic London area.”

Salon 64

Members’ clubs are the big thing in London these days. And Salon 64 founder Ricky Walters understands that intrinsically. That’s why his much-lauded Soho salon will now be a members’ space from 7pm each night. From the street, a black blind with their signature Club64 logo will conceal the shop front from passersby and members – anyone who has visited the salon for a service in the past three months – will be able to stroll in via a facial-recognition camera at the front door. Upon entry expect dim lights, a roaring fire, and a competitive menu of cocktails and drinks.

Rathbone Boxing Club

Fitzrovia’s Rathbone Boxing Club is launching a new complimentary training programme to combat Blue Monday. On Monday January 20th, come train for free at the state-of-the-art studios from 12.00-6.30pm and fight off one of the most depressing days of the year in style. Register online and join in for a class, or self-train throughout those hours.

DeRose Method

A fusion of physical techniques and philosophical principles, for many, the DeRose Method is the ultimate in fitness and wellbeing. Led by Paulo Pacifici, who has trained for decades to hone his craft, the sessions include a fusion of balance poses and positions that require strength, flexibility and demand the utmost focus. There is also a focus on breathing during each hour-long session. It’s no wonder Salma Hayek has become such a vocal fan.

Renata Nunes

A passionate physiotherapist, it was Renata Nunes’s own experience as a young ballerina that led her to learn about the body and how it works. A mixture of physio, massage, osteopathy and acupuncture, the results of her body treatments are restorative and long lasting. Focusing on home visits, Renata is kind, considered and listens to every word her client utters, as well as reading what they’ve left out, in order to design each bespoke session.

Memoize Fragrance

Memoize London is a niche perfume brand with an exclusive line at Selfridges. Founded by Holly Hutchinson in 2016, Holly’s passion for scent was ignited at the age of seven after she was gifted a set of miniature perfumes for her birthday. Memoize London presents a collection of beautifully crafted scents, capturing the essence the various encounters we all have throughout our lives and the emotions, feelings and memories.

Gazelli House

Never satisfied, the inspiring team at Gazelli House in West London is constantly launching new treatments and partnerships. Gazelli House strives to provide everything its clients might need for mind, body and soul under the roof of its stunning three-storey townhouse. The ultimate in restorative wellness, the new treatments include, the Zen facial, during which the therapist sculpts the face using Gua Sha, massages the gut, and works with healing energy and intuitive sound therapy, so client leaves lifted and rebalanced. Or try the new firming Alternative to Botox facial, where the therapist uses radio frequency with vacuum suction and oxygen therapy for a results-driven treatment that lasts 75 minutes.

Myza

A lifestyle brand focusing solely on sleep, Myza is an online marketplace selling high-end sleep-related products. Founded at the end of 2017, by a mother and daughter duo who personally suffered from insomnia, Myza offers a curated selection of products and content together with expert advice. And together, the entire concept promises to enhance and improve the quality of your nightly rest.

Stow London

Stow London really took off after Meghan Markle revealed their tech travel case as one of her go-to accessories. And it’s no surprise that the fashionable royal is a fan of the cult British brands, as their high-end leather accessories are beautifully crafted and designed. Thanks to their signature travel case, never again will you find your headphones in a snarl at the bottom of your purse.

London Grace

London Grace began when its founder Kirsten Hazell saw a gap in the market. After spending time in New York City, Kirsten realised in London there tended to only be two types of nail salons – either super cheap options that skimped on service and product quality, or decadent and over-priced hotel spas, averaging at about £75 for a single treatment. London Grace offers something in the middle. With 10 outposts now in London, clients can get a coffee or a cocktail during their treatment, or even book out a space for a hen do or birthday party.

Elenique Skin Clinic

Elena Cudworth’s passion for skincare began after a life-changing and damaging experience with a fillers caused by an over-zealous and under-trained practitioner. She later founded Elenique – the name is a nod to her first name and the word unique – in Putney. A full-service aesthetic skincare facility, Elena offers a host of non-surgical treatments all backed by science and research.

Eudelo: Dermatology And Skin Wellbeing

A female-led multi-award-winning private skincare clinic founded by German dermatologist Dr Stefanie Williams, Eudelo is driven by the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and the treatment of troubled skin.

The ultra-gentle and incredibly chic products tick all the boxes when it comes to their active ingredients. Certified organic by the Soil Association, the range is effective and filled-to-the brim with nutrition for the skin.

The UK’s first purpose-built detox retreat, Glasshouse in Essex is a marvel. Less than an hour from London, the state-of-the-art facilities include top fitness classes, a host of outdoor activities, a bulging treatment list, and an impressive healthy food menu. Designed to promote wellness and weight loss, it’s the perfect place to visit and press pause. And the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows in the fitness suite create a welcoming and inspiring place from which to sweat.

Bastien Gonzalez

It was his experience as a competitive skier that ultimately led Bastien Gonzalez to work with feet. After an accident on the slopes followed by six months of intensive physiotherapy, Bastien met a podiatrist who became key to his recovery. Now Bastien travels around the globe, working with the world’s most glamorous hotels, including the Mandarin Oriental in London, offering his signature dry manicures and pedicures. Training for three years to become a certified podiatrist, all of his treatments are based in well-researched methods and protocols.

Ada Ooi, Founder of 001 Skincare London

Classically trained in aesthetic therapy and aromatherapy, Ada Ooi is also an accredited member of The Acupuncture Society and The College of Chinese Medicine.
