Decapitated baby Halloween display removed from charity shop after protest

A Halloween display featuring a decapitated baby has been removed from a charity shop's window after complaints.

The British Red Cross shop in Southbourne, Bournemouth, featured a figure holding a headless baby with fake blood running down its dress.

It formed part of a larger display, featuring a glass bottle with 'Human Blood' written on it, a skeleton, and tissues smeared with fake blood.

One shopper in Dorset told the BBC they could not believe a Red Cross shop had the headless baby on display.

Others described it as "shocking" and "tasteless."

But a spokesperson for the charity said in reply to the Tweets about the display: "It is normal practice for each shop to dress and display their windows using their own local discretion.

"In this example, we accept that this display falls short of reasonable expectations.

"We have asked the shop to remove the display as soon as possible."

In a statement on its Facebook page , the British Red Cross shop issued a further apology.

It said: "On behalf of myself and all my team members, we want to apologise for any of our Halloween window displays.

"It was never our intention to offend anyone on that matter and all the window display[s] have now been removed."

Twitter user Harry Wessex had written: "I can't believe that a Red Cross shop in Southbourne, Bournemouth, has this on display.

"Absolutely tragic and tasteless!"

It is understood that the display has now been removed from the window.
