Decanter in Bruntsfield builds new 'window bar' to serve burgers, tacos and cocktails

A popular Bruntsfield restaurant and bar has built a new window bar where they'll serve burgers, tacos and cocktails to hungry customers.

Decanter Winery and Dinery, which opened last year, wants to make it easier for people to collect food and drinks while remaining socially distant.

Owner Jonathan Chierchia says the idea came about as customers were concerned the restaurant looked closed, despite there being a one-in, one-out, collection policy.

As a result they've built a special serving counter, and expanded their takeaway menu, with changes to lockdown set to come in from Thursday (28 May).

Jonathan said: "We had a lot of feedback from customers saying that with our darkened glass and our one in, one out collection system, the restaurant looked closed.

"This is why we decided to literally make a serving counter at our window – encouraging people to queue safely but still enjoy our food, cocktails, and wine.

"We’ve expanded our menu beyond our Decanter classics to include a variety of street food – from burgers to wings and tacos, and have been experimenting with a variety of ‘slushy’ cocktails."

Decanter, which is on Bruntsfield Place, describes itself as a "winery and dinery of utmost finery".

It opened at the end of last year and prides itself on its relaxed atmosphere, but top class wine list.
