Dec Donnelly pays tribute to Newcastle with heartfelt statement about city

Dec Donnelly has paid tribute to Newcastle with a touching statement in a magazine interview.

Dec and presenting colleague and best mate Ant McPartlin are featured in the latest issue of Stylist , days after the Geordie duo returned to screens with the new series of Saturday Night Takeaway.

The much talked about first episode of the ITV show featured a performance from Pussycat Dolls (featuring the lads themselves!) and a Newcastle family being given a dream home for free in amazing scenes.

Ant and Dec, while now based away from home, both try and get back up to Tyneside when they can. Right before Christmas, Dec was photographed enjoying a Newcastle Falcons game at Kingston Park, while last year, Ant had his very own 'Saturday night takeaway' when he treated his family to a chippy tea a Harbour Lights restaurant in Seaton Sluice.

And when asked by Stylist what his happy place is, Dec made a comment that is sure to resonate with so many people who now live away from Newcastle and cherish their visits back to home turf.

He answered: "Newcastle. Once I arrive, my shoulders drop and I feel instantly relaxed."

That wasn't the only mention Newcastle got in the interview either. Everyone knows what devoted NUFC fans Ant & Dec are, with them even watching a Magpies' match in the Australian jungle in breaks between filming I'm A Celebrity in December.

And when quizzed on their loves, both lads mentioned the club.

Ant answered: "My family, my partner, her girls, our dogs… and Newcastle United," and Dec said: "My family, my wife, my child, my dog and Newcastle United – all equally."

But, he then risked being in the doghouse at home by answering the next question 'when did you last lie?' with "In the previous question. I actually love Newcastle United more than my wife, but don’t tell her that."
