Dec Donnelly grim faced at Old Trafford as Newcastle lose to Manchester United

Dec Donnelly's face said it all as his beloved Newcastle United lost 4-1 to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

Hot on the heels of his and best mate Ant's historic NTAs win on Thursday when they won Best Presenter for a 20th year in a row, Dec took his seat at Old Trafford for the game as the Magpies hoped to cause an upset.

The match saw Cristiano Ronaldo return to the famous ground after sealing a transfer back to his former club last month and Steve Bruce's men were hoping to make it a miserable homecoming for the Portugese icon.

However, against the side he used to play for, Bruce could only watch as Man United romped to a 4-1 win, despite Newcastle being on level terms at one point in the second half.

It was Ronaldo that put the Red Devils ahead on the stroke of half time, before Javier Manquillo equalised for the Magpies.

But, after Ronaldo put the home side ahead once again, it was to end up being their day, with Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard also finding the net.

Like all the other Newcastle fans inside the stadium, as well as the many following the game at home, Dec was over the moon at Manquillo's leveller, tweeting: "Oops! That wasn’t in the script was it!?"

However, by the final whistle, his joy had turned to the sadness that is all too familiar for NUFC fans.

Dec was at the game with good friend Jonathan Wilkes and rubbing salt into the wounds of the 4-1 defeat, Jonathan uploaded a picture of him looking delighted as Dec looked distinctly unimpressed next to him.

Jonathan captioned the pic: "What a day !! To be at ⁦@ManUtd⁩ to watch a living LEGEND return…Me & Mickey loving it !! A poor little Geordie in the middle not so @antanddec."

Dec shared the picture on Ant and Dec's account, using a single smoke coming out of nostrils emoji to caption it.

Looking ahead to another big match on Saturday night, he then tweeted: "After an unenjoyable day of sport so far may I say… GOOD LUCK @EmmaRaducanu. We’re rooting for you! "
