Dec admits he almost walked away from Ant after drink-drive conviction

Declan Donnelly almost parted ways with TV partner Ant McPartlin after his drink-driving scandal, he has admitted.

The star has described the actions of the other half of Ant and Dec as "indefensible" after the incident last year.

The TV duo first landed on our screens together back in 1989 when they starred in CBBC's Byker Grove.

But the pair's relationship came under strain after Ant smashed into two cars that contained children while twice over the legal drink-drive limit, the Mirror reports.

Ant, 42, was fined a record £86,000 and banned from driving for 20 months after pleading guilty to drink driving.

At the time, Wimbledon magistrates court heard the presenter's Breathalyser reading had been 75mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath after crashing a black Mini - compared to the legal limit of 35 mcg.

In an interview with Guardian Weekend magazine, to be published this Saturday, Dec said that he ultimately decided to stick by Ant to see him return to his 'healthy and happy self.'

And Ant said: "For the first time in many years, all we talked about were deep things like how we felt, and what the future held, and where we were, and all the chaos that has come along, especially for me."

After his arrest, Ant checked himself into rehab to receive treatment for alcohol, addiction and mental health issues.

The pair reunited for the first time in almost a year back in January for the first auditions of Britain's Got Talent.
