Debutants help guide Livingston to season opening victory over Brechin City

Debut goals from Tom Parkes and Ayo Obileye helped guide Livingston to a comfortable 3-0 away victory against Brechin City in the first game of the season.

Livingston boss David Martindale handed four starting debuts in the League Cup opener, with on loan Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis and striker Bruce Anderson also getting the nod, while there was a second Lions debut for James Penrice.

The visitors got off to the perfect start when centre-back Parkes, a summer recruit from Exeter City, fired home from a Jaze Kabia corner-kick inside the opening minute.

Their slow start aside, City put up a good fight against their Premiership opponents with the defence not breached again until the 62nd minute when Obileye rose unchallenged to nod home a Josh Mullin corner.

Full-back Jackson Longridge completed the scoring in injury-time as he tapped home an Alan Forrest cut back.

The victory puts Livi as the early leaders in Group D, with Raith Rovers having beaten Cowdenbeath 1-0 in the group's other fixture.

The Lions travel to League One side Alloa Athletic next Saturday hoping to make it two wins from two.
