Debutant Ellis takes hat-trick in T20I

Debutant Nathan Ellis has claimed a last-over hat-trick as Australia limited Bangladesh to 9-127 in game three of the T20I series in Dhaka.

After going for 29 off his first three overs on Friday, Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes paceman Ellis, who finished with 3-34 off his four overs, struck with the last three balls of the innings.

He bowled Bangladesh captain and top scorer Mohammad Mahmudullah (52 off 53 balls) and had Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan caught on the legside by Mitchell Marsh and Ashton Agar respectively.

It's believed Ellis is the first bowler to take a hat-trick on a T20I debut.

The three other bowlers to bowl their full complement of overs - paceman Josh Hazlewood (2-16) and spinners Adam Zampa (2-24) and Ashton Ager (0-23) - also all kept the batsmen on a tight rein.

The Australians mixed up their pace well and captain Matthew Wade didn't allow the Bangladesh batsmen to settle into a rhythm, rotating seven bowlers.

They were backed up by excellent fielding, with some good catches taken and a couple of direct hit run outs from Alex Carey and Moises Henriques.

Australia will still need to make their highest total of the five-match T20I series to stay alive after losing the first two matches.

Ellis was one of three changes made to the side for the match, which started one and a quarter hours late due to rain.

Batsman Ben McDermott and allrounder Dan Christian also came in, with Josh Philippe. AJ Tye and Mitchell Starc dropping out, with none of them injured.

Australia struck with successive deliveries to have the home team reeling at 2-3 after just 11 balls.

Hazlewood had Mohammad Naim caught behind off the final delivery of his first over.

Legspinner Zampa trapped Soumya Sarkar with the first delivery of his spell and though the batsman called for a review, it confirmed the umpire's original decision

A partnership of 44 in six overs between Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan (26 off 17) wrested back the initiative, with the pair taking 15 off a Mitchell Marsh over before the home team started losing wickets at regular intervals.
