NEW DELHI: Debutant off-spinner Anmoljeet Singh and leg-spinner Mohamed Enaan were the stars as India U-19 secured a comprehensive victory over Australia in the second Youth Test in Chennai. The win by an innings and 120 runs completed a 2-0 series sweep.
Starting the third day at 142 for 3, the Australian colts crumbled, losing 17 wickets in a single day. Their reply to India's enormous first-innings score of 492 fell short as they were bowled out for 277 in their first innings.
Oliver Peake led the Australian effort with a significant innings of 117 off 143 balls. He, alongside keeper Alex Lee Young, who scored 66, formed a partnership of 166 runs for the fourth wicket. However, after Lee Young's dismissal, the next six wickets fell for a mere 59 runs.
Kerala's Enaan took 4 wickets for 60 runs in 22.2 overs. Ludhiana’s Anmoljeet Singh, who idolizes Harbhajan Singh, claimed 4 for 72 in 24 overs, playing a key role in restricting Australia.
In four-day cricket, the follow-on can be enforced if the team batting second trails by more than 150 runs. With India U-19 leading by 115 runs, they enforced the follow-on.
Coming back for the second innings, Anmoljeet continued his impressive form, taking 5 for 32 in 13.3 overs. Australia was dismissed for 95 in just 31.3 overs.
Eight Australian batsmen failed to reach double figures, and four didn't score at all.
Anmoljeet finished the match with remarkable figures of 9 for 104. Enaan also delivered a splendid performance, bagging 7 wickets for 97 runs.
