KHON KAEN: Fifty local residents are crying foul over a list of names that shows them to be debtors of a local cooperative despite their claims that most have already repaid the money, while the rest allegedly never sought loans in the first place.
The group asked the provincial governor for help yesterday as little progress has been made in a probe into what the cooperative manager earlier admitted was a “flaw” in recording financial transactions.
The manager of the Supphanimit agricultural cooperative informed them the investigation is under way, but they are so worried that they need to turn to the Khon Kaen governor and the state-run Damrongtham complaint centre for help, Somkiat Khachonbun said as the group gathered in front of the provincial hall.
The 40-year-old resident from Ban Toey Moo 9 in Ubon Ratana district admitted he once borrowed 20,000 baht in 2016, but claimed he settled the debt in full that year. “I talked with other villagers and found they were also listed as debtors in a similar way,” he said.
Damrongtham officials are looking into the complaint, and into any possible link with dishonest behaviour.
