Deborah James rushed to A&E with 'spiking 40 degree temperature' amid cancer battle

Deborah James revealed she was rushed to hospital early this morning after suffering "spiking 40 degree temperatures" on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old BBC podcast host, who was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in 2016, ended up in the A&E ward after experiencing a fever and dehydration.

She took to Instagram on Wednesday and shared a selfie from her hospital bed, where she was hooked up to a drip containing medicines and fluids, writing: "Not how I want to start a Wednesday!

"Had to go to A&E, was spiking 40 degree temperatures and was so dehydrated from not being able to keep anything in me!"

She added: "Have spent the last 8 hours being pumped full of antibiotics and fluids - lots of fluids! Feeling better already! Hope this is a fly by visit!"

The podcast host was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016 and at the time, was told she might not live for longer than five years.

Back in June, the BBC presenter revealed that her scans were showing a "rapidly growing tumour" amid her cancer battle.

Deborah told fans she had some flare-ups and the experimental drugs she had been taking no longer works.

"My cancer has been bubbling away in the background, and I've had flare-ups that have resulted in two major operations in the last six months alone," she revealed.

"I've had weeks of radiotherapy and CyberKnife as well in the last six months. And blood tests have been showing my tumour markers rising, while at the same time my liver function is failing."

The star said that the tumour near her liver had wrapped itself around her bile duct.

She continued in her Sun column : "It’s inoperable and is now causing an obstruction, to the point where my liver is starting to pack it in."

"...Every blood test just shows my liver function is getting worse and worse, so I’m at a critical point," she added.

"My liver is in such a bad way, I can’t have chemo."

Deborah revealed her worries, saying that "for the first time, I can see I might not survive this".

But over the weekend, Deborah suggested her battle with the illness has taken a corner.

She excitedly wrote: "MY CHEMO IS WORKING! Words, I wanted to hear, but didn't allow myself to think might happen.

"I think I've been preparing for the worst actually. I have to say waiting for these scan results has been incredibly hard. In my head I've gone to hell and back.

"These are the first scans since my previous drugs stopped working, my liver packed up, and I got sepsis.

"We started me back on what was my first line 'nuclear chemo' and it's fair to say it's floored me."

She continued: "Despite the snippets of smiles and glam dresses I choose to share here (because they are the moments in my day that make me smile), behind closed doors this has been the hardest 3 months since my diagnosis physically (and mentally).

"Essentially the cancer that was rapidly growing and causing my liver to fail, has been halted at least temporarily.

"And my lymnodes are even shrinking! Am I cured? No. Will I ever be - No. Do I still have active cancer - sadly yes.

"But this buys me more time. At least until my next scan!"
