Deborah James calls husband Sebastian Bowen 'her utter rock' amid bowel cancer battle

Brave Deborah James has described her husband, Sebastian Bowen, as her 'utter rock' after she entered hospice care.

The former BBC presenter, 40, who has battled bowel cancer since 2016, gushed over her husband in a sweet Instagram post on Wednesday as she spends her final days alongside her loved-ones.

Deborah, who shares children Hugo, 14, and daughter Eloise, 12, with Sebastian, admitted that she wouldn't have been able to fight through her bowel cancer battle if it wasn't for the strength of her husband.

Alongside a gorgeous photo of the couple smiling at the RHS Garden Wisley, Deborah penned: "Seb whisked me ( bit of a mission but worth it) at the crack of dawn to @rhswisley before all the crowds to say well done for the book launch, and it was just perfect for a hour.

The brave star revealed that she hadn't left the house in 10 days because she had been 'too weak', but her husband encouraged her find joy in going on the adventure.

Deborah continued: "I love this picture of reminding me of vibrant green life all around, despite the sadness of knowing the state of my body inside.

"But Seb is an utter rock for me and together we seem to be able to squeeze our hands, swallow the tears and laugh instead."

Deborah's loving post comes ten days after she wrote a heartbreaking 'goodbye' to her supportive fans after entering hospice care on May 9.

"The message I never wanted to write. We have tried everything, but my body simply isn't playing ball," she wrote.

"My active care has stopped and I am now moved to hospice at home care, with my incredible family all around me and the focus is on making sure I'm not in pain and spending time with them."

"Nobody knows how long I've got left but I'm not able to walk, I'm sleeping most of the days, and most things I took for granted are pipe dreams. I know we have left no stone unturned," she continued.

"But even with all the innovative cancer drugs in the world or some magic new breakthrough, my body just can't continue anymore."

Deborah has been awarded a Damehood (Instagram)

Over the past ten days, Deborah has been awarded a Damehood and has raised close to £5million for bowel cancer.

The Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK is Deborah’s final endeavour of many to support research into bowel cancer.

The fundraiser website reads: “All money raised will be allocated, with the support of CRUK [Cancer Research UK] to funding causes and projects that I really care about,”
