Debora-lee Furness talks about 'gay' rumours surrounding husband Hugh Jackman

Actor Deborra Lee-Furness has addressed rumours about her husband Hugh Jackman’s sexuality, calling them “just wrong” in a new candid interview. Speaking on the ABC show Anh’s Brush with Fame, Furness opened up about comments she is “sick” of getting about her marriage to the X-Men star.

When asked if she’s “sick” of hearing that she’s “lucky to be married to Hugh”, she responded, “People don’t realise it’s actually rude to say that.”

The pair have been married for 24 years and share two adopted children, Oscar and Ava.

She also addressed speculation that both she and Jackman are “gay”, saying, “He’s been gay so many years. I was gay, too.”

“You know when I did ‘Shame’? I was gay. They were shocked when I got married,” she continued.

“It’s just wrong. It’s like someone saying to Elton John, ‘He’s straight.’ I’m sure he’d be pissed,” Furness said.

Jackman recently opened up about his marriage to Furness, saying to People that they regularly “reset” their relationship. He said, “We’re always learning and humans change so you have to, even though we’ve been together 25 years, you gotta reset all the time.”

“I’m always reeling in how funny she is and how amazing she is and how smart she is. The longer it goes on the better it gets,” he said.

The pair first met on the set of Correlli, which was Jackman’s “first job out of drama school.” He recalled the moment on The Jess Cagle Interview, explaining that he eventually realised he had “a crush on my leading lady” - which led Jackman to avoid her initially, but then later admit that he had feelings for her when she confronted him.

“She goes, ‘Oh? Because I’ve got a crush on you too.’ I never in a million years thought she reciprocated,” he continued.
