Debbie McGee is setting the record straight when it comes to her marriage to the late Paul Daniels after suffering a torrent of rumours and derogatory comments over the years.
The Strictly Come Dancing star spoke out in the defence of Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis, 47, who recently faced mean comments online regarding his wife Laura Lewington, 40, who trolls called a "gold digger".
Debbie, 61, admitted she endured similar “stupid comments” about her marriage to Paul, who died in 2016 at the age of 77.
In a now-deleted tweet, Lewis told his 849k followers: “I know you think it's a joke, but actually it’s offensive both to me and my wife - you're accusing her of being a gold digger.

“We've been together for 15 since way before MSE was owt big. And the mutual support and love we give each other is part of where we both are now." [sic]
Debbie reshared the message on her own page and said she had received similar comments thrown her way after marrying Paul when she was 29 and he was 50 in 1988.
She wrote to her 43k followers: "I suffered from this for so many years.
“The people who make stupid comments have probably never been in love.”

She added: “It took a long time before people accepted that I married Paul because I loved him. Great show tonight.”
Former Strictly Come Dancing finalist Debbie recently opened up about her first meeting with Paul on her podcast Spill the Tea with Debbie McGee.
She revealed they got off to an awkward start as Paul wanted to keep his distance as he thought the 21 year age gap between them was too large.

"I was much younger than Paul and so he all the time was keeping me at arm's length.
"He thought I was far too young for him because I was 20 years younger than him."
