Debate rages among Nottingham Forest fans over divisive midfielder's future

Joao Carvalho seems to have divided the Nottingham Forest fanbase ever since he has been at the club - and nothing has changed while he has been away.

The Reds’ record signing has been spending the season on loan at Almeria, with his long-term future up in the air.

The Spanish second division outfit hold an option to make his move a permanent one in the summer.

But it seems Forest boss Chris Hughton has not completely ruled out giving the midfielder a second chance at the City Ground.

Defender Joe Worrall has said he believes Carvalho can still be “massive for Forest in the future”.

And that has led to plenty of debate among supporters about whether Hughton should give the Portuguese the opportunity to resurrect his Reds career.

Forest will look to bolster their attacking resources in the summer, and some have suggested Carvalho could provide a solution for the team’s goalscoring troubles. Others argue it would be best for both parties to move on.

Here’s what fans have been saying about the 24-year-old…

McKenzie Eyre: Was good for Karanka

Simon Cripwell: Was very lightweight, easily knocked off the ball and seemed to disappear in games. However, worth giving him one more chance. He was expensive after all.

Corby Macdonald: Having looked at his record at Almeria, not really set them alight, mainly on the bench for them as well! All for giving him another go, but, think we would be better off getting some money for him and reinvesting it

Lee Goodburn: I’d take him back, I think Hughton could get the best out of him

Simon Lacey: Technically, a good player - however, didn't really get chance to settle - and the type of player you need to build around, i.e. put players in who will do the things he is less good at.

Problem is, fans would rather see a player who runs up and down, box to box, then a player who can open defences with flicks and vision.

I'd give him a chance next season - however, if a money offer came in, then I'm sure the club would take it.

Wayne Mason: Bring him back please

Spencer Paul: Class act on his day. Think hughton could get the best out of him

@Stubob7: Love how the Carvalho saga still divides the #nffc fan base. Clearly has class and vision beyond many others and would be interested to see if CH can make it work for him, But if as good as many suggest or worth an ounce of his value, why do no other managers or teams want him?

@mynameisneil: It seems Joe Worrall has ignited the Carvalho debate. Far too many with rose tinted glasses. A player who was given plenty of chances, and failed to consistently impress.

The energy and work rate Krovinovic and Garner put are exactly what he lacked. Move on. #nffc
