An inquest into the death a married couple in a car crash has been opened and adjourned in Nottingham.

Assistant coroner for Nottinghamshire, Ms Laurina Bower, opened proceedings on Thursday, April 22 at Nottingham Coroners Court.

It follows the death of Mr Lee Theakstone and Mrs Jane Theakstone after a road traffic collision on Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Ms Bower gave the location of Mr and Mrs Theakstone's death to be at the scene of the crash on Alfreton Road in Selston.

The hearing was attended virtually by family members of the couple, who consented for the opening of the inquest of both relatives to be carried out together.

Ms Bower said Mr Theakstone was born September 17, 1975 and aged 45 at the time of his death.

He was formerly identified by a Dr. Evans.

Mrs Theakstone's date of birth was given as August 4, 1971 and she was aged 49 when she passed away.

She was formally identified by her sister at Queen's Medical Centre.

Post-mortem examinations were carried out on the couple, with both Mr and Mrs Theakstone's provisional cause of death being multiple injuries as a result of a road traffic collision.

Ms Bower adjourned the inquest for further enquiries to be carried out.

"My sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends," Ms Bower said.
