The death toll from record rainfall over the few days to Saturday, which has caused widespread flooding and landslides, in the central and western part of Japan had risen to 95 as of 10 a.m. Monday, according to calculations by The Yomiuri Shimbun.

Deaths have occurred in a total of 11 prefectures, with 41 in Hiroshima, 23 in Ehime and 15 in Okayama. Deaths have also recorded in Gifu and Kochi prefectures. The number of those missing has increased to at least 64 across eight prefectures.

The torrential rain has been brought on by an active seasonal rainy front.

The death toll has been calculated based on information from such authorities as municipal governments.
