An autopsy ruled a woman’s death a homicide after she was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run Sunday in Pilsen.
Mia Maria Arriaga, 27, died of blunt force injuries from the crash which happened about 1:05 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Ashland Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Arriaga and a 49-year-old man were crossing Ashland at the intersection with 18th Street when a vehicle driven by a male on 18th turned left onto Ashland and struck them both, Chicago police said. The driver didn’t stop after the crash.
Arriaga was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead Wednesday, the medical examiner’s office said. She lived in Pilsen.
The man was treated for minor injuries and refused to be taken to a hospital, police said.
CPD’s Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
