Death of woman found floating at Scarborough Beach in Perth not suspicious, police say

Police say the death of a woman whose body was found at Perth's Scarborough Beach yesterday morning is not being treated as suspicious.

Officers were called to the surf lifesaving club around 5:30am after the body was spotted in the water.

Police said in an initial statement detectives from the homicide squad were on the scene and were "working to establish the identity of the woman and the cause of death".

But they later confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances.

The woman has been identified and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

The beach had been closed to the public but has since reopened.

Scarborough is one of Perth's best-known beaches because of its large, wide strip of sand, and is popular with swimmers and surfers.

In recent years it has undergone a multi-million dollar transformation, including the installation of a beachside swimming pool.
