The death of a 16-year-old boy who was shot Tuesday in McKinley Park on the South Side has been ruled accidental.

About 2 p.m., he was on South Marshfield Avenue when he was shot in the abdomen, Chicago police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy Wednesday found the boy died of the wound but ruled his death an accident, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His identity has not been released.

A gun was recovered near the scene, police said. The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation by Area Central detectives.
