Death of Queen Elizabeth latest: Coffin of late monarch arrives at Buckingham Palace

The Queen’s coffin has arrived in at Buckingham Palace after a flight from Scotland, escorted by the Princess Royal.

A RAF C17 aircraft carrying the casket touched down at RAF Northolt in west London following a flight from Edinburgh.

It was taken in a state hearse to Buckingham Palace where it was met by King Charles III and other members of the Royal Family, including the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex.

The route was lined by crowds paying their respects.

The Queen’s coffin will stay overnight in the palace before it lies in state in Westminster Hall until the funeral on Monday.

The king has arrived back in London separately after a visit to Northern Ireland as part of his tour of the UK following his mother’s death.

Mourners have already started camping out ahead of the Lying-in-State procession which will take place on Wednesday afternoon in Westminster.

The procession will start at Buckingham Palace at 2.22pm and will proceed along The Mall, Horse Guards Road, across Horse Guards Parade and onto Whitehall to Parliament Square and into the Palace of Westminster.
