Death of nursery worker not 'suspicious' police confirm following 'tragic accident'

The death of a staff member at a nursery in Plymouth is not being treated as suspicious, it has been confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Kiddi Caru nursery after a report of concern for the welfare of a woman at around 1.20pm on Thursday, July 9.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson told Plymouth Live : “The death is not believed to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A heart-breaking statement was released by the nursery which paid tribute to “a well-loved staff member”.

“The accident happened in a part of the building where no children were present. No child witnessed the accident or its aftermath,” added the nursery.

“The safety and wellbeing of our children and staff is our first priority at all times. The incident is still being investigated but the early indications are that it does not raise any ongoing safety concerns.

“Everybody at the nursery is heartbroken by this terrible event and the loss of a well-loved staff member.

"The nursery express their thoughts and prayers for their colleague and her loved ones."

A police spokesperson explained: “Police were called to an address at the Langage Park Office Campus, on Langage Industrial Park in Plympton, by the ambulance service with a report of concern for the welfare of a woman at around 1.20pm.

“Emergency services attended the scene where the woman was sadly confirmed deceased.”

The Health and Safety Executive have been informed as have the womans’ next of kin.

Police enquiries are ongoing.
