Police investigating the death of a man in Seaham have revealed he died as a result of a 'tragic accident'.

Officers descended on Marlborough after a body was discovered at around 8am on Wednesday.

Forensic officers were investigating at the scene throughout the day and a tent was put up outside the front of a home.

A large cordon was in place at the scene which was being patrolled by officers.

Police said on Wednesday that the man's death was being treated as unexplained.

Now, Durham Constabulary has confirmed the man died following a 'tragic incident'.

A spokeswoman said: "Police can confirm that a man who was found dead in Marlborough, in Seaham, yesterday morning (July 1) died as a result of a tragic accident.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokeswoman from North East Ambulance Service confirmed they had been called and sent a double-crewed ambulance to the area at about 8am.
