Death of man found on Jarrow High Street being treated as 'suspicious'

The death of a man whose body was discovered in South Tyneside is being treated as suspicious.

The man was found dead inside a property on High Street in Jarrow after police were called just after 12pm on Tuesday.

Officers had received a report of concern for the man and when emergency services arrived, the body of a man aged in his 50s was found inside.

The circumstances around the man’s death are being investigated, but at this stage police are treating the death as "suspicious".

A cordon is in place while officers continue to work at the scene.

Northumbria Police say officers are also on patrol if anyone has concerns about the police activity.

Anyone who may have information about the man’s death is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 441 14/05/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
