Death of man found in water near college campus is 'non-suspicious'

The circumstances surrounding the death of a man found in the water close to a college campus are believed to be "non-suspicious".

Merseyside Police confirmed an investigation had been launched following the discovery of a man's body at Tower Quays, Birkenhead on Friday, September 9. Emergency services were called to reports of a body of a man in the water, near to Wirral Met College's Wirral Waters Campus, at around 9.55am.

North West Ambulance Service attended the incident and confirmed the man was dead at the scene. Tower Road was closed while emergency services attended the incident.

The police said the body was yet to be formally identified on Friday and a post-mortem examination was underway to establish the cause of death.

Now a Merseyside Police spokesperson has confirmed to the ECHO the man's death "appears non-suspicious". The spokesperson added due to the nature of the incident the man's body was being passed to the coroner to prepare a file.
