Greater Manchester Police today confirmed that the man's death is not being treated as suspicious.
In a statement yesterday, the force said: "Police were called around 8.20pm on Sunday 12 December to a report of a sudden death and a possible gas leak on Newlands Drive, Prestwich.
"Emergency services attended and a man in his 70's was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
"Enquiries are ongoing."

The quiet residential street was taped off on Monday morning as forensics officers collected evidence at the scene.
Neighbour John Potter said he learned what had happened after receiving a phone call from a neighbour.
"I was watching TV and didn't even know there was anything going on," he added.
"The fire brigade and police were telling everyone to stay indoors. The police have been here all night."
One neighbour described the man's death as 'very sad'.
"This is a quiet street," she added. "We're a very close community and we watch out for each other, so it's quite shocking.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson added: “At 8:36pm on 12 December 2021, three fire engines from Broughton, Agecroft and Whitefield fire stations supported colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police at reports of a gas leak on Newlands Drive, Prestwich.
“Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and one gas detector and were detained one hour fifteen minutes.
A spokesperson for Cadent said: "We did not find the presence of a natural gas leak within the property, but did isolate the supply to the property while police and fire service carried out any further investigations."
