Death of 'lovely lady' with 'dry sense of humour' leaves neighbours in shock

The death of a "lovely lady" with a "dry sense of humour" has devastated her neighbours.

Emergency services were called to were called to Dereham Crescent, in Fazakerley, at around 9am on Tuesday after neighbours discovered a woman lying in the street.

She had suffered serious injuries and paramedics were sent to help before rushing her to hospital.

Tragically, the woman in her 60s died a short time later as police cordoned off the area to begin their investigation.

The woman's death is being treated as "unexplained" by officers who were still at the scene 24 hours after she was found.

As forensics continued to work at the scene, tributes began flooding in on social media to the woman.

On Facebook, Keeley Leary posted a touching message about the woman she has known from the area.

She said: "I'm going to miss our little chats and walks back from the school together.

"Such a lovely lady with such a funny and dry sense of humour.

"She used to make me laugh.

"I'm absolutely heartbroken for the family.

"I wont forget my little school mate in the short time I knew her."

Others posted about how sad the incident was and shared their condolences with the woman's family.

Claire Murray said: "May you rest in peace, thinking of all the family and everyone that knew her."

Brenda Westerman also said: "So sad. RIP. Condolences to all her friends and family xx"

Kathy Power added: "So very sad.

Merseyside Police confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday evening and explained that the woman's next of kin had been informed.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We can confirm that detectives are investigating following the unexplained death of a woman in Fazakerley today, Tuesday 8 September.

"At around 9am, officers were called to Dereham Crescent to reports of a woman in her 60s having been found with serious injuries.

"She was taken by ambulance to hospital where she was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances, and her death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"Her next of kin have been made aware and a post mortem will take place."
