Death of Leeds girl, 11, 'not suspicious', West Yorkshire Police confirm

The death of a 'wonderful, popular' 11-year-old girl in Swarcliffe, Leeds, was not suspicious, West Yorkshire Police has confirmed.

A spokesperson said there is no longer a criminal investigation following a post-mortem examination today.

The girl was taken to hospital in a critical condition from a home in Stanks Drive, Swarcliffe, on Wednesday (November 25) morning.

She was tragically pronounced dead in the early hours of Thursday (November 26).

While the Boston Spa Academy pupil's cause of death remains unclear pending further tests, a police spokesman said it is not being treated as suspicious.

A man and a woman who were initially arrested in connection with the incident, have now been released from their bail.

Yesterday, Boston Spa Academy's principal paid tribute to the girl, describing her as a "much-loved and popular Year 7 student".

Adam Ryder said: "All of us at Boston Spa Academy are deeply saddened by the sudden death of a much-loved and popular Year 7 student.

"This student had already made a wonderfully positive impact on our academy and on us all as individuals and their unexplained death has come as a great shock to us all.

"The academy is providing all support necessary to all members of our school community - students, families and colleagues who may be affected by this tragic event.

"Above all, our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers go to all of the family and friends of the student. We would respectfully request that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."
