Death of Irish pensioner near Rome not considered suspicious, police say

The discovery of a body belonging to an Irish pensioner near Rome is not being treated as suspicious, according to reports.

The body of an Irish woman, aged 70, was found close to her accommodation in a forest in Fiumicino, near Rome.

It is understood that she was in Rome to attend her daughter’s wedding when she disappeared on Sunday afternoon.

A search was launched when she didn't return by 5pm when members of the wedding party contacted authorities and a search began.

Her body was found a few hours later in a ditch around a kilometre away from her accommodation.

According to the Irish Sun, police said there were no indications of anything suspicious and are awaiting results of a post mortem.

It is thought that she died of natural causes.
