Death of dad knocked down by bin lorry to be probed at public inquiry

A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held into the death of a dad who was hit by a bin lorry at work.

Council worker Robert McMillan, better known as Rab, died following the tragedy in East Kilbride.

The first phase of the public hearing is scheduled to take place in August, almost 20 months after the 55-year-old's death.

The loving dad passed away at the scene in Mount Cameron Drive on January 17 last year, leaving his family distraught.

Wife Lesley and daughter Lauren, both told of their huge loss in the aftermath of the horrific incident.

They spoke of Rab's "big personality" and his kind words for others, as well as his love of sport, especially football.

Lesley told the Hamilton Advertiser at the time: “I think more than anything else, though, Rab loved to travel with Lauren and me.

"The three of us had some great holidays abroad and I will always treasure those memories.

“Lauren says her dad was her best pal, and that is true. They were very close and did everything together. She is distraught at losing her dad. Rab was always there for her, and for me.

“This has left a huge hole in all of our lives, not just us but all of his family, friends and workmates."

The preliminary hearing is scheduled to be held at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, August 24 at 9.30am.
