Death of dad 'killed trying to save daughter ruined a family' murder trial told

The death of a dad allegedly murdered trying to save his daughter “ruined a family”, a jury heard.

Maria Hughes, 53, made the claim yesterday as she gave evidence about her late partner Brian Boyle.

Brian, 56, is said to have been killed during an attack outside his flat in Glasgow’s Dennistoun in July last year.

Paul McCann, 38, Mark Moncrieff, 33, and Domenica Smith, 22, deny murder at the trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Jurors earlier heard how Brian and his daughter Kayleigh Boyle, 23, went outside after hearing shouting and her car being vandalised. Maria – Kayleigh’s mum – said Smith was “jumping” on the vehicle as if on a “trampoline”.

Maria used her partner’s phone to call police.

The court has heard Brian died after allegedly being struck by a blade and a hammer by attackers.

His daughter Kayleigh told the trial her dad “saved” her life.

Maria said: “When I look back, it was all a shock. It ruined a family.”
