Death of a Salesman at Young Vic: First look at Wendell Pierce and Sharon D Clarke in Arthur Miller play

The first pictures have been released for the Young Vic’s production of Death of a Salesman, which opens tomorrow.

Marianne Elliott and Miranda Cromwell co-direct this version of Arthur Miller’s play, following award-winning success on both hit musical Company and epic Angels in America.

Wendell Pierce, Sharon D Clarke and Arinzé Kene star as the Loman family in what is considered to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th century.

Pierce, best known for his roles in Suits and The Wire, makes his UK theatre debut as Willy Loman, an ageing salesman, while Olivier-winner Clarke plays his wife Linda. Kene, best known for the critically acclaimed Misty, plays elder son Biff alongside Martins Imhangbe, who plays his brother.

Past and present intertwine as the Loman family attempt to navigate Willy’s crippling fears, declining mental health and each of their illusions about their lives.

The full cast also includes, Ian Bonar, Trevor Cooper, Joseph Mydell, Nenda Neurer, Jennifer Saayeng, Matthew Seadon-Young, Maggie Service and Femi Temowo, with design by Anna Fleischle, lighting by Aideen Malone, sound by Carolyn Downing and music by Temowo.

Death of a Salesman first opened on Broadway in 1949 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama as well as a Tony Award for best play.

Death of a Salesman runs at the Young Vic from May 9-June 29, youngvic.org
